PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) respects the decision of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to announce the dissolution of parliament today to pave the way for the general election to be held soon, Muhyiddin Yassin said.

The PN chairman said Ismail has received the assent of the Agong to dissolve parliament.

The former prime minister said his pact would abide by the decision because it is in accordance with the Federal Constitution.

“A decision has been made (to hold the general election) and we respect it. We will now strive for victory.

“Our only hope is that the election process will not be stifled by floods and prevent the people from voting,” he said in Pahang today.

On October 6, PN ministers had sent an appeal to the Agong not to allow snap polls this year due to possible monsoon-related flooding in the country.

Muhyiddin had said holding elections during the monsoon season would certainly affect the election process and make things difficult for the rakyat.

“We had felt the timing was not appropriate, but we respect the decision.

“I think the people are ready for it and they want to exercise their right to elect a better government that will take care of them, which is PN,” he said today. – October 10, 2022.
