PAS will not call elections in the states it helms anytime soon, Abdul Hadi Awang said.
In a statement, the Islamist party’s president said this is to ensure the states – Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah – could focus on preparing for the upcoming monsoon season.
The monsoon is expected to hit the country from November until March 2023.
Umno leaders have been pressing Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to dissolve parliament.
Opposition parties want the general election to be held next year, and last Wednesday sent a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong appealing for the polls not to be held during the monsoon.
The current term of the Dewan Rakyat expires in July next year.
The statement came after the party’s central committee meeting today.
On another matter, Hadi said PAS had not decided on whether to go with Umno or Bersatu in the next general election.
He said the party wants “flexibility” in its negotiations with both parties.
“PAS sees that there is a need for flexibility in negotiations with Umno and Bersatu, including on the conditions put forward.
“The three core Malay parties must further ensure political stability post-GE15,” he said, referring to the next general election. – October 8, 2022.
