MALAYSIA will not be offering any reward for information that could lead to the arrest of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin said.

Hamzah was replying to a question by Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng on why the government had not offered any reward to those with information regarding Jho Low’s whereabouts.

“The PDRM is of the view that the Red Notice issued by Interpol is a better method as it involves cooperation and information that is more accurate,” Hamzah said in a parliamentary written reply.

“This method requires the 195 member countries to provide information regarding Jho Low to Malaysia for the purpose of extradition.”

A Red Notice is a request by a member country to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition and will only be issued if there is a valid national arrest warrant.

Lim also asked the home minister whether he had contacted Wall Street Journal reporters Tom Wright and Bradley Hope who had allegedly seen Jho Low and his family in China and Hong Kong in 2018 and 2019.

Hamzah did not reply to this, instead he said that all information was looked at thoroughly.

“Any information regarding Jho Low’s whereabouts are looked into in detail by the police, including by cooperating with foreign authorities through international channels,” Hamzah added.

Wright and Hope, authors of the book Billion Dollar Whale, revealed that they had launched a project to locate Low.

In September, they released a photograph that allegedly depicted Low in Shanghai Disneyland in 2019 and a copy of an application form for a posh yacht club membership purportedly signed by his wife. – October 4, 2022.
