OPPOSITION leader Anwar Ibrahim said there is a high possibility of him contesting in seats held by “traitors”.

The Port Dickson MP said the seat is on a more secure footing now as opposed to 2018.

“The Malays in the area are welcoming so maybe it’s time for me to look into seats that are held by traitors,” said Anwar at a press night at Hilton.

Anwar added that a clear message should be sent to traitors – that the people will not forgive them.

“Betraying is something that will not be forgiven. They killed the hopes of the people.”

The 2020 manoeuvre known as the Sheraton Move saw Barisan Nasional, Bersatu, PAS, and a faction led by PKR’s then deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali joining forces to topple the Pakatan Harapan government.

This eventually led to Muhyiddin Yassin being appointed the country’s eighth prime minister.

However, on August 3 last year, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, together with 10 other party lawmakers, announced they were withdrawing their support for Muhyiddin as prime minister. The number of MPs doing so rose to 15 several days later.

Umno vice president Ismail Sabri Yaakob was later sworn in as the country’s ninth prime minister. – September 28, 2022.
