A DAP lawmaker wants the Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PAC) on Infrastructure to quiz Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong about the frequent breakdown of LRT services in the Klang Valley.

Bandar Kuching MP, Dr Kelvin Yii, said these incidences had left hundreds of commuters stranded on numerous occasions.

There have been complaints on a daily basis from the public about train delays and damage to facilities such as escalators and toilets.

“As a result, many public transport users are stranded and late to their destinations.

“This problem has been going on for a long time and it is affecting productivity in the Klang Valley, which is the pulse of the national economy, especially for the service sector,” Yii said in a statement today.

He said if there was a need for it, Putrajaya should provide a special injection of funds in Budget 2023 to carry out immediate reparation works.

On Thursday, Wee said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is now enlisting the help of the public in a systematic manner to uplift the standards of operations and maintenance of its infrastructure and facilities.

“Arising from several issues highlighted by public transport users over the state of maintenance of our facilities, as well as preparedness of our train stations and bus hubs, Prasarana has been tasked with creating a comprehensive approach in ensuring its facilities are in tip top condition,” he said. – September 25, 2022.
