1,639 new Covid cases, 4 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 1,639 fresh Covid-19 cases yesterday, a slight increase from 1,572 cases reported the day before. 

The latest number of infections brings the total cases since the onset of the pandemic to 4,818,890. 

Four deaths – one each in Selangor, Sabah, Perak and Malacca – were registered yesterday, taking the virus death toll to 36,312. 

Among the new infections, Selangor posted the most numbers of cases with 659, followed by Kuala Lumpur (295) and Sabah (137). 

Perak logged 108 cases, Negri Sembilan (70), Sarawak (60), Penang (57), Kedah (55), Johor (48), Malacca (46), Kelantan (36), Pahang (32), Putrajaya (19), Terengganu (13), Labuan (3) and Perlis (1). 

Active cases declined to 25,611 yesterday as 2,056 people recovered from the disease. 

Among the active cases, 24,404 (95.3%) were in home quarantine, four (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,143 (4.6%) in hospitals. 

There were 60 patients in intensive care, 39 of whom required respiratory assistance. – September 19, 2022.
