THE prime minister’s wife said today she was more comfortable at home than in Seri Perdana, Najib Razak’s official residence in Putrajaya.
Rosmah Mansor told a gathering of women civil servants that she rarely stayed at Seri Perdana despite its larger size.
“(Chief Secretary to the Government) Ali Hamsa earlier asked me where I had come from. I said I had come from my home in Taman Duta, Kuala Lumpur, even though Seri Perdana is right next to this building,” she said in her speech.
The building she referred to was the venue of the 36th Puspanita annual general meeting she was officiating.
“If I lived here (in Putrajaya), it would take me only two minutes to arrive but since I live in KL, it took me 30 minutes to get here.
“So I told Tan Sri Ali I rarely live here because there is nothing like your own home. (Seri Perdana) is big, but I feel more comfortable living in my own home in Taman Duta. Only if there are functions in Putrajaya, then I might stay at Seri Perdana.
Rosmah also compared the the pros and cons of the two abodes, noting that while she would have to move many of her things over if she were to reside in Seri Perdana on a more permanent basis, the location would make it easier for some to visit here.
Meanwhile, Rosmah said the Barisan Nasional government had many initiatives to uplift women and in recognition of their contribution to the country’s development.
“We should be proud because we have a government who acknowledges women as partners in the country’s development.”
Women participation in the workforce was now 54.3%, compared with 18.8% in 2004 and 37.5% in 2016, she said.
