UMNO will use false narratives against DAP to win votes in the next general election, Lim Guan Eng said.

The DAP chairman was responding to a remark by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, which was in power for 22 months after the 14th general election, was a DAP government.

“Whilst DAP was a principal player, at no time did DAP dominate the government or that (the) PH (administration) was a DAP government, as claimed by Ismail,” he said.

When PH was in power, DAP had six ministers, none of which were prime minister or deputy prime minister, he said.

“Ismail should go back and learn arithmetic on how to count, if he believes that six out of a 29-member cabinet was tantamount to dominating the government,” he said.

The Bagan MP said Umno is also peddling a false narrative that DAP did not favour subsidies or direct financial assistance.

“The cap on RON 95 at RM2.08 per litre was initiated under PH, where prices can go below RM 2.08 per litre when the global crude oil prices fall, but are not allowed to exceed RM 2.08 per litre when prices go up,” he said.

DAP had also reimbursed RM555 million to the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera for the takeover of the Automated Enforcement System (AES) and initiated a 18% reduction in toll for the North-South Expressway (NSE) as a first step towards abolition of the highway toll by the end of 2022, he said.

“Finally, in the memorandum of understanding that PH signed with Ismail in September 2021, DAP’s suggestion of an additional RM45 billion fund injection to help the needy and small and medium enterprises affected by the Covid-19 pandemic was agreed to,” Lim said.

“Much of the aid, renamed as Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia, received by businesses and the rakyat originated from the additional RM45 billion fund injection proposed by DAP.”

Lim also accused Umno of spreading extremist views endangering Lembaga Tabung Haji by putting a non-Muslim in charge.

“However, after Umno returned to power through the backdoor in the infamous Sheraton Move, they did not make any comment when their own government’s auditor-general confirmed that timely measures taken by PH had saved Tabung Haji from financial ruin.” – August 3, 2022.
