FINANCE Minister Senator Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has been appointed treasurer for Selangor Umno, paving the way for the former banker to contest in the next general election.

The announcement was made by Selangor chief Noh Omar during the state’s Barisal Nasional convention in Shah Alam tonight. 

“Who would have guessed we would lose big in 2008, after winning big in Selangor in the 2004 elections? 

“That means that Selangor is unique and we can similarly win here in the next elections, following big wins in Malacca and Johor,” Noh said. 

Noh, who is also minister of entrepreneur development and co-operatives, said Selangor needed to make drastic changes.

“As such, Tengku Zafrul is now the treasurer in Selangor Umno. 

“I have also appointed Jamal Yunos as Selangor BN information chief, because he is good in communications,” Noh said.

Tengku Zafrul’s appointment is expected as the former banker is tipped to contest for the Kuala Selangor constituency, even though he does not lead any of the Umno divisions in the state. – July 31, 2022.
