ALL 42 DAP MPs have remained loyal to the party after receiving the mandate of the people in the last general election, party chairman Lim Guan Eng said.

According to Lim, no DAP MPs have defected and continue to stand by the party, adding that other MPs have jumped between parties and must face the consequences.

“None of the 42 DAP MPs have sold their principles and still stand fast with the mandate given by the people.

“This (anti-party hopping bill) is a huge step to ensure that voters’ choices are respected and the trust from the people towards the MPs cannot simply be betrayed,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today while debating the proposed legislation.

He said the memorandum of understanding signed between the opposition and the government, which includes the drawing up of the anti-party hopping law, will instil confidence in voters to choose representatives who are not traitors.

“The bill is for (voters) to choose representatives that will look after the people and not defect because of positions and monetary gain,” he said.

“The most embarrassing situation that continues to haunt the country’s political scene is the Sheraton Move in 2020, which should not be repeated.”

Lim said many things still need to be done for the future so that there is no ‘“loophole” or legal matters that will allow opportunists to jump parties.

“We know that there are those in parliament who will still jump party after this bill is passed,” he said.

“We hope the government will look into the legal loopholes that may be used by such individuals.” – July 28, 2022.
