A MAN who allegedly killed a pedestrian after he rammed into her at a Pulau Tikus zebra crossing early last month posted bail today.

Nazri Che Lah, 44, was charged with recklessly riding a motorcycle and causing the death of pedestrian Foo Swee Wah on April 6.

A man who claimed he was Nazri’s brother told reporters outside the Penang magistrate courtroom today that his family had finally managed to raise money for the RM10,000 bail.

Nazri, who worked as a ship crewman, had been hospitalised at Penang Hospital since the incident while under police custody.

The man claiming to be his brother said Nazri suffered a broken jaw in the accident.

Nazri claimed trial on April 10 to the offence under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of between two and 10 years, a maximum fine of RM20,000 and suspension of the person’s driving licence.

Foo was crossing the road on a zebra-crossing near the Pulau Tikus police station on Jalan Burma when Nazri allegedly failed to stop his bike, ramming into her. He was then filmed speeding off after the incident.

She suffered serious head injuries and a broken leg in the 10.30am incident, and died several hours later.

The incident, which was captured on video by a dashboard camera in a car that stopped at the crossing, went viral that day.

Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid fixed July 13 for mention, pending report on the closed circuit television (CCTV).

It was reported that Nazri’s motorcycle license had been suspended, pending the the completion of his case. – May 29, 2017.
