THE fuel shortage that hit a few Shell stations in Kuching at the end of last month might be over but the oil company has not offered any explanation on the cause of the shortage.

Shell Malaysia, on June 29, in a statement to confirm that its stations did indeed experience a shortage of RON95 for a week, stated it was due to “unforeseen logistical challenges”.

Shell did not respond when The Malaysian Insight queried what were the “unforeseen logistical challenges” and sought details but one local portal reported there was a shortage of tanker drivers, resulting in a supply disruption.

Instead, the oil company told The Malaysian Insight it regretted the shortage and “would like to assure our customers that the situation has normalised”.

Shell also said it has a team “working around the clock to ensure sufficient supply of fuel to our retail stations to meet the rising demand nationwide”.

“We remain committed to provide quality services to all our customers together with our retailers,” it added.

Local news media reported RON95 was unavailable at several Shell stations in the city since June 27.

One station employee reportedly told a local portal there had been a huge demand for RON95 at her station since May. – July 15, 2022.
