PKR wants more seats to contest in the 15th general election as it aims to be the biggest and strongest party in the opposition, secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

This goal was raised at a leadership retreat before the Malacca elections, he told party members today.

“The leadership retreat agreed that we should contest again in all the parliamentary and state seats that PKR had won.

“We also agreed to continue discussing with other parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH) about adding the number of seats for PKR, with the hope of emerging as the biggest and strongest party,” Saifuddin said.

The Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP was speaking at the opening of the PKR Youth congress in Shah Alam today.

He said PKR intended to form the government after GE15 with Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.

“PKR is not going into GE15 to become the opposition again.”

At a press conference later, Saifuddin said additional seats for PKR can come from those where it was defeated by a slim majority.

He declined to give a number when asked how many out of Parliament’s 222 seats the party wanted to contest in.

PKR won 48 parliamentary and 73 state seats in the 2018 general election.

Saifuddin said PKR’s intention of contesting more seats has not yet been conveyed to its PH partners, DAP and Amanah.

He said while it is what PKR wants, the matter is still subject to discussion with its two partners. – July 15, 2022.
