THE Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied raiding the the offices of the Selangor menteri besar and several others in connection with a controversial land deal in Ijok.

MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said in a brief text message today that it was not true anti-graft officers had visited the offices today.

Chatter on social media has it that MACC is also raiding the offices of lawyers R. Sivarasa and N. Surendran and Eco World Sdn Bhd in relation to the case.

Staff at the Selangor menteri besar’s office on the 21st floor of Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah said they had not received a visit from MACC today.

Media personnel, however, were staked out at the lobby of the building in anticipation of a raid.

The Ijok land deal came into focus when Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communication director Abdul Rahman Dahlan last week asked the Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to explain why the state government had “hastily” returned disputed land worth RM1.18 billion  to two housing developers.

Rahman had said the state government’s action was questionable because the High Court and the Court of Appeal had in 2013 and 2014, respectively, ruled that the land belonged to the Selangor government.

In response, Azmin said the state had followed procedure and had handed over to the MACC all documents related to the land transaction.

He said the documents were submitted a few months ago following reports lodged by several pressure groups demanding an investigation into the deal.

“The state government has given its full cooperation. Now let’s wait for the investigation findings,” he had said. – February 21, 2018.
