PAS is in discussion with its allies in Perikatan Nasional (PN) not to use the coalition logo in the upcoming general election, said party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

However, Hadi was coy about whether PAS would use its own logo.

“We are discussing changing it for a new suitable symbol. We don’t want to use the PN flag, as we did with the Johor and Malacca state polls.

“We will use our own flag but we still in discussion. I don’t know when a decision will be made but there is still time before the next general election,” he told reporters in Marang, Terengganu, today.

Last Saturday, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said Bersatu and PAS have decided to campaign under the coalition flag for the upcoming general election.

“This has been agreed to by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and the PAS leadership confirm it.

“For example, in Johor, PAS and Bersatu will be contesting,” he was quoted by Bernama.

“That was the decision that I received and I think it remains. However, the distribution of seats has not been decided yet,” he said.

Last week, Hadi also rejected moves by PAS leaders to use the party’s traditional white moon set against a green background logo.

Analysts have projected that the party will do well in Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan using its current logo because it is synonymous with the Islamist party. – July 8, 2022.
