FOOD stall operators at public institutions of higher learning (IPTA), will be given a rental moratorium for six months from this month, said Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad today.

In a statement today, she said the move is to decrease the meal prices for students in view of the rising cost of goods.

Noraini also announced a quality food menu at a ceiling price of RM3.50 for each item under the Keluarga Malaysia Student Food Basket initiative, in line with the announcement made by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Ismail in a statement today said the government would be introducing the Keluarga Malaysia Menu at cooperative restaurants, cafeterias and food outlets at IPTA as an alternative for target groups to obtain meals at reasonable costs for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Noraini said the Higher Education Ministry is empowering the Student Food Bank and Food@Campus at IPTA with the cooperation of various ministries, civil society groups, corporate companies and private bodies.

Noraini said the ministry has also agreed with the proposal of the National Students Consultative Council to form a Keluarga Malaysia Student Livelihood Action Committee to be chaired by her as higher education minister.

The committee will also coordinate and implement policies, monitor the prices of goods and services, and holistically collaborate with stakeholders, she said.

“The ministry is always concerned and vigilant towards the welfare of students in IPTA to ensure that the learning and teaching sessions throughout their study period run smoothly,” she said.

Noraini said transport facilities for students in and out of campus would also be improved with the provision of a more frequent schedule to facilitate students’ daily activities. – Bernama, July 4, 2022.
