THE Ampang PKR branch will hold elections again next week after Daing Muhammad Reduan Bachok, who won the post of branch chief, was found to be involved in money politics (buying of votes).

PKR elections committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said investigations have been carried out by a panel following complaints about ethical violations during campaigning.

After uncovering the violations, the committee has invalidated Daing Reduan win and nullified his candidacy.

“The committee upholds the findings of the panel that you should be deprived of your candidacy for the post of branch head,” Dr Zaliha said to Daing Reduan in a letter seen by The Malaysian Insight.

Daing Reduan was found to have violated a clause in the party’s election code of ethics in relation to “money politics”.

Zaliha in a notice to PKR Ampang Branch members informed that the re-election for the branch will be held on June 29 between 12pm and 8pm. The election will take place at Datuk Ahmad Razali Hall, Kg Baru Ampang.

She also said the decision to drop Daing Reduan as a candidate in the re-election is final.

In the results announced on May 28, Daing Reduan won 942 votes, defeating actor Hans Isaac who got 609 votes and singer Altimet, whose real name is Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman, who got 589 votes.

The other three contenders were Abdul Halim Mohamed Yusof, who got 272 votes, Sam Hoo Wai (138 votes), Abdullah Md Zain (110) and Abdul Latif Shaari (17).

During the fractious PKR election in 2018, Daing Reduan was involved in a ruckus in Keningau, Sabah, and was charged in court for insulting then deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli.

He was later acquitted by the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court after the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case. – June 25, 2022.
