THE people should not blame the government for price hikes, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

Labelling these critics politically ignorant, the Marang MP said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had done his best to resolve the issue despite the challenging circumstances.

“Ismail’s achievement is good in this challenging situation, wanting to solve 100% is not possible, but in fact he has completed a lot.

“After all, he has to bear the burden from the previous government, so he has to fix it,” he told the media after his morning lecture in Rusila, Marang.

He said Malaysia was not the only nation facing the issue of rising prices due to inflation, pointing to problems around the world.

Apart from inflation, the issue of rising prices of goods, especially chicken prices, must be seen from various angles, such as traders raising prices, Hadi said.

“Who controls the livestock feed? We have to see who manipulates the price. We have to ask everyone, not just the government. You can’t blame the government alone.

“We have to be aware of the inflation problem that is plaguing the whole world, not just Malaysia.

“To face the problem of world inflation is challenging. Those who continue to criticise the government are those who don’t understand (the issue). These are people who are politically ignorant,” he said.

Ismail has come under fire, including from the opposition, over the government’s decision to stop subsidies for chicken, eggs and bottled cooking oil effective July. – June 24, 2022.
