KUALA Lumpur City Hall must disclose the true value of the contract to replace 200 units of smart lampposts in the capital city, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil said today.

He said DBKL must also explain if it had agreed for the project to be subcontracted by Ennova Sdn Bhd to Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB).

“What is the truth behind this contract? Did DBKL allow Ennova to sub-con the work based on the contract terms between the two parties?

“What was the real amount paid by DBKL to Ennova to replace the 200 lampposts?” the PKR leader asked in a statement.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng had recently urged DBKL to explain why it was paying RM30.75 million for 200 lampposts.

That translated to RM153,750 per lamppost.

The contract for the project includes engineering, procurement, construction and operation work.

Lim also questioned why the government was awarding the contract through Ennova.

It was reported that Ennova had awarded the contract to Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB).

DBKL had denied the claims, saying it had not authorised a third party to appoint SCIB nor any of its subsidiaries to carry out any of its projects.

“Any contract value or quantity stated by SCIB is beyond the knowledge of DBKL.”

The Malaysian Insight has contacted Kuala Lumpur Mayor Mahadi Che Ngah for a response.

Fahmi said DBKL must explain why the project was not directly awarded to SCIB.

“Why give it to Ennova when the company is not doing the work?”

Resident associations have also demanded that DBKL clarify why it is spending RM30.75 million to replace 200 lampposts.

They called for transparency and accountability as the project is paid for by taxpayers.
