Medical group urges healthcare workers facing problems to seek help

The Malaysian Medical Association has urged healthcare professional under duress to reach out for support and not resort to taking drastic action. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 4, 2022.

HEALTHCARE professionals who are facing personal issues are advised not to make extreme decisions but seek help, the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) said today. 

“Healthcare professionals experiencing any personal issues can reach out to MMA’s HelpDoc – a support group for doctors. 

“More information on HelpDoc can be found on MMA’s website,” its president Dr Koh Kar Chai said in a statement today. 

The group’s statement comes following the death of a houseman attached to Penang Hospital on April 17. 

The houseman died after falling from an office building along Jalan Datuk Keramat in George Town, Penang.

The houseman, who had been stationed at Penang Hospital on April 4, 2022, and was found dead on April 17.

The Penang health department today said that the trainee doctor’s death is currently being investigated by police

The state’s health department director Dr Ma’arof Sudin said police have ordered a post-mortem to be conducted, which will be performed at the forensic department in Penang Hospital.

Koh said MMA is saddened over the houseman’s death and hoped the incident would not be sensationalised. 

He urged the public to respect the privacy of the victim’s family while the authorities are carrying out their investigations. – May 4, 2022.
