FOR the first time in more than a year, new Covid-19 cases dropped to below 1,000, to 922 yesterday.

The total number of infections since the start of the pandemic stood at 4,451,781.

Selangor posted the highest number of infections yesterday with 429, followed by Kuala Lumpur (120) and Penang (83).

Negeri Sembilan logged 58 new cases, Perak (41), Johor (35), Sarawak (31), Malacca (28), Putrajaya (26), Kedah (22), Pahang (19), Sabah (12), Terengganu (9), Kelantan (7), Perlis (1) and Labuan (1). 

The Health Ministry also reported nine Covid-19 deaths yesterday, bringing the death toll to 35,564. 

Five deaths was classified dead on arrival. 

Kedah and Perak reported two deaths each, while Johor, Pahang, Penang, Sarawak and Selangor each reported one death. 

The number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units (ICU) stood at 69, of which 46 required  respiratory support.
