HIGHER learning institutions are not allowed to increase tuition fees, as the Higher Education Ministry has placed a moratorium on such hikes since the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic session following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ministry in a statement today said the government still bears the full operational costs of public universities.

“Financial resources provided by the government still enable public universities to carry out their responsibility to provide education to citizens.”

It said the moratorium is set out of concern for the welfare of the people. – Bernama, April 30, 2022.
