ARMED forces veterans should be given employment in government-linked companies (GLC), a group of ex-servicemen urged Putrajaya.

National Patriots Association (NPA) president Mohamed Arshad Raji said the government should allocate 10% of jobs at GLCs for veterans aged below 60 years of age.

“Every GLC should allocate 10% of its human resources to veterans and ex-police below the age of 60,” he said in a press conference  today.

This would enable veterans to have better retirement schemes, which Arshad said was not on par with that of civil servants.

It would also provide job security to veterans, especially those who lack other skills to earn a living upon leaving the armed forces.

“There are so many GLCs. The GLCs can play a role by allocating certain job opportunities to veterans.”

The group is also seeking to restructure the terms of the armed forces’ retirement scheme and a return of exemptions for veterans from paying certain utility bills.

This would help “the hardcore poor veterans”, Arshad said.

He said the association hoped to meet Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein over these matters to improve the welfare of ex-servicemen. – February 14, 2018.
