161 new Covid-19 hospital admissions

MALAYSIA recorded 161 new Covid-19 hospital admissions yesterday, the Health Ministry said.  

Of the hospital admissions, the ministry recorded 87 cases in categories 1 and 2, and 74 cases in categories 3,4 and 5. 

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said category 1 and 2 patients will be admitted to hospital if they are deemed high-risk and in need of observation. 

Patients in category 1 are asymptomatic, category 2 have mild symptoms, category 3 have pneumonia-like symptoms, category 4 have serious symptoms requiring respiratory support and category 5 have severe symptoms requiring intensive care. 

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions, at 36, followed by Perak (22) and Sarawak (15).  

Noor Hisham said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICU) were at 13% of their total capacity of 752 beds. 

He said 92 cases are in the ICU with 63 patients requiring respiratory assistance. 

The country also recorded 6,900 recoveries, bringing the total to 4,346,421. – April 28, 2022.
