5,899 new Covid infections, 5 deaths

NEW Covid-19 infections dropped yesterday to 5,899, from 6,609 the day before.

Five people were reported dead from the virus. Four of them were dead on arrival, the CovidNow website showed.

The death toll rose to 35,470 while active infections stood at 88,184.

Selangor logged the highest number of new infections with 3,579, followed by Kuala Lumpur (649) and Perak (301).

Negri Sembilan reported 249 new virus cases, Johor (214), Penang (193), Sarawak (151), Kedah (126), Malacca (112), Sabah (85), Pahang (61), Terengganu (60), Putrajaya (60), Kelantan (25), Perlis (20) and Labuan (14).

Three of the deaths, all DOA, took place in Selangor, one in Sabah and one (DOA) in Sarawak.

There were 1,649 people hospitalised with Covid, 92 of them in intensive care. Sixty-one were on ventilators. – April 22, 2022.
