7,140 new Covid-19 infections, 16 deaths

MALAYSIA reported 7,140 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, up from the previous day’s 6,623 cases.

The CovidNow website showed that 16 deaths were also reported, of which four were brought in dead.

With the addition of the new figure, the number of active cases now stands at 96,601, while the death toll stands at 35,437.

Selangor logged the highest number of infections with 5,020 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (415) and Negri Sembilan (290).

Perak reported 287 infections, followed by Terengganu (239), Johor (214), Penang (166), Kedah (133), Malacca (94), Sarawak (92), Pahang (67), Sabah (58), Kelantan (40), Putrajaya (11), Perlis (10) and Labuan (7).

The GitHub database showed that Selangor also logged the highest number of fatalities, with five deaths.

Three deaths were reported in Johor, two deaths each in Kedah, Penang and Terengganu, and one death each in Perak and Sarawak.

Around 2,308 people are currently hospitalised with Covid-19 while 110 are in intensive care units (ICU).

Of those being treated in the ICU, 68 are on ventilators. – April 19, 2022.
