HEALTH Minister Khairy Jamaluddin revealed today that he has received two legal notices involving the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Children.

He said one of the legal notices was from lawyer Asiah Jalil who named him and Director General of Health, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah as defendants.

“This mother has also sued her husband for bringing her child to be vaccinated,” he said in a press conference at Sultanah NurZahirah Hospital in Terengganu today.

However, Khairy did not give details on the second law suit which only named him as the defendant.

“All these suits are only addressed to me other than Noor Hisham (Health director general) for the first case,” he said.

Asiah had filed a suit in early January regarding the administration of vaccine booster doses for her children aged between 12 and 19 years.

The mother of 10 children was against the first dose for her kids aged between five and 11 years old.

Khairy also said that restrictions were still imposed on those without complete vaccines even though the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) were relaxed as the country entered the pandemic phase.

He added that with minimal enforcement it did not mean that the SOP on those without the vaccine no longer applied.

“Restrictions are still in place for those who have not yet received the vaccine.  There are still certain conditions in the SOP, it’s just a matter of implementation or not.

“If there is no complete vaccination, they still cannot eat at shops, shopping malls or travel abroad.”

However, there have been no reports of action against individuals violating the ruling.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob reiterated his stance to allow people to return to their villages to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

However, in the excitement of returning to their hometowns, Ismail urged the public to continue to exercise self-control even though a lot of flexibility has been given after the country entered the transition to endemic phase on April 1. – April 16, 2022.
