TALKS are ongoing as to which opposition party will contest the Ayer Hitam federal seat in the 14th general election, Amanah president Mohammad Sabu said in response to news that DAP has rescinded an earlier plan to let its Pakatan Harapan ally contest the seat.

“No, we have not decided. We are still discussing. There is no final decision made,” he told reporters in Shah Alam today.

Mohamad, populary known as Mat Sabu, was asked about DAP’s recent announcement that it will contest in Ayer Hitam, Johor, overturning an earlier plan to let Amanah field its candidate there.

DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke on Saturday confirmed that the party will contest the seat against the incumbent, MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong.

Loke said the change of plan came about because Amanah now has 12 state seats in Johor which he said was “considered as many, not a few”. Since DAP did not get to add one more state seat, it has opted to take back Ayer Hitam, he added.

Previously, DAP said it would make way for an Amanah candidate to contest in Ayer Hitam as part of Pakatan Harapan’s strategy to capture the seat. – February 13, 2018.
