IF Prime Minister Najib Razak knows that the Election Commission’s re-delineation exercise goes against the constitution, he should reject the final report, which will be submitted to Parliament, said Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah.

Maria said today the EC should look into the objections that the opposition pact Pakatan Harapan and the Selangor government have gathered against the re-delineation exercise.

“We have to defend it. I hope the EC will look through the objections that we have (gathered),” she said during the submission of objections to the EC’s second notice on its re-delineation exercise in Selangor at the commission’s office in Shah Alam today.

PH and electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 submitted 200 objections, which represent 30,000 signatures, to the EC today.

“The objections represent the voice of the people in Selangor who hope for the EC to act professionally and fairly without siding any party as well as browsing through the objections thoroughly based on the facts presented.

“For the areas affected by the second proposal like Gombak, Ampang, Pandan, Kuala Selangor and Tj Karang, we hope the EC will analyse the objections brought forward by voters in those areas,” said PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

On January 15, the EC published its list of recommendations in the state with the proposed re-delineation on display for a month, which ends tomorrow.

Maria said there is still time for voters to object to the re-delineation exercise.

“I do not know why they (the EC) are rushing through the process. What are they rushing for? The timeline is actually until September.”

Critics had claimed that the re-delineation is to give Barisan Nasional an unfair advantage in the 14th general election.

It was reported last month that Selangor PH was still gathering 500 objections to the re-delineation exercise.

Present today were PH leaders – Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu. – February 13, 2018.
