FOLLOWING Bersatu president Muhyddin Yassin’s meeting with Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the PAS president today expressed a desire to also meet with the Pejuang chairman to discuss cooperation in the next general election.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said in Terengganu today that the purpose of meeting would be to discuss “Malay unity”.
Hadi said PAS was informed by Muhyiddin about his meeting with Dr Mahathir, which was held two weeks after the March 12 Johor elections.
“Yes, we were informed and PAS’ stand is that we are ready to work with any Malay party.
“A meeting will be arranged, God willing, with Tun Dr Mahathir. We are ready to meet with everyone to unite the ummah, ” Hadi told the media in Rusila, Marang, today.
He did not say when the meeting would take place.
Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir yesterday confirmed that Muhyiddin had met with Dr Mahathir in Kuala Terengganu.
Mukhriz said it was Muhyiddin who had initiated the meeting.
It was the first time the two leaders had met since the Pakatan Harapan government was toppled in February 2020.
Dr Mahathir co-founded Bersatu with Muhyiddin and served as its chairman until he was removed for opposing a move for the party leave PH to form a new coalition with Umno, PAS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and rouge PKR leaders.
Mukhriz, however, said yesterday Pejuang had yet to decide on cooperation with other Malay parties. – April 1, 2022.
