A FACTORY processing pau and dim sum in Medan Melor Selatan, Butterworth, Penang, has been ordered to close for two weeks due to unhygienic conditions.
This comes after authorities found cockroaches, rats and rat droppings in the storage and food processing areas.
Penang Health Department food quality and safety division officer Mohd Wazir Khalid said they conducted a raid under Op Tegar from 10am today, and found that the factory did not meet specified standards.
The factory, which is a single-storey terrace house, was issued RM5,300 in compounds by the department, Seberang Perai City Council and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
The factory was found guilty of the same offences in 2019.
Wazir said authorities also raided a fishball processing factory in Raja Uda, whose owner failed to adhere to the set food safety programme and workers did not wear gloves when processing food.
The factory was issued two compounds and four notices totalling RM2,900. – Bernama, March 30, 2022.
