Actor Zul Ariffin under probe for showing sexy scenes on social media

ACTOR Zul Ariffin is under investigation for violating internet laws for posting a racy clip of the movie, “Perempuan Itu”, in which he is the star, which the authorities have deemed offensive and obscene.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa said Zul will be investigated under section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“The legal process has begun. The actor Zul Ariffin will be investigated for posting content that is against the law.

“What is certain is that the kind of scenes posted will not be broadcast during the month of Ramadan or any other month; protect our values and culture,” Annuar said in a tweet.

The offending clip on YouTube, which has since been removed, shows him and co-star Siti Hariesa in two provocative scenes.

Social media users however, are still sharing the scenes.

Zul had shared the clip as a teaser for the film which is to be shown on TV3 during Ramadan.

Some Malay social media users have been up in arms over the clip, which also drew flak from PAS MPs in Parliament and calls from the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to stop its airing.

Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. pertains to the posting of content that is “obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive in character with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person”.

If convicted, Zul faces a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a jail term not exceeding one year or both.
