WARISAN will keep its options open when it comes to political pacts for the 15th general election (GE15), said president Mohd Shafie Apdal.

This includes the possibility of working with Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, he added, according to Free Malaysia Today.

“All options are there. We are not closing our doors to anyone,” he was quoted as saying at party headquarters in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, today.

Warisan made its first foray into peninsula politics in the Johor polls on March 12, but lost in all six seats in which it contested and its deposit.

It spread its wings to West Malaysia last year, claiming that it has good support for being “more genuinely multiracial” than other parties.

Warisan was Pakatan Harapan’s ally when the latter held federal power, but did not sign the memorandum of understanding for political stability between the coalition and Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government.

It did not collaborate with the coalition in the recent polls.

Shafie, a former Sabah chief minister, said his party needs a “smart partnership” as it knows “it will not be easy going solo”.

“We will explore all areas, including whether to have a concept like Gabungan Parti Sarawak, which is not affiliated with any party but works with the government of the day in Putrajaya.”

He was also quoted as saying that there is nothing wrong with working with a party that has been voted in by the people.

Warisan, which currently has eight MPs, will prepare for GE15 by strengthening its bases in Sabah, he added. – March 19, 2022.
