Covid-19 ICU capacity exceeds 50% in 6 states, 2 territories

THE intensive care unit (ICU) capacity for Covid-19 patients has breached 50% in six states and two territories, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

They are Kuala Lumpur (73%), Putrajaya (67%), Perlis (64%), Kelantan (63%), Selangor (57%), Penang (55%), Sarawak (55%) and Johor (53%).

Dr Noor Hisham in a statement today said the national Covid-19 ICU capacity currently stands at 43%.

Out of 886 ICU beds, 383 are occupied, he added.

A total of 1,665 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital yesterday, of which 679 are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, while the rest are in Categories 1 and 2.

Of the hospitalised, 383 are in ICU, of which 222 require ventilator support.

Malaysia recorded 24,241 fresh coronavirus infections yesterday, of which the majority (58.8%) are in Category 2, 40% in Category 1 and the rest (0.76%, or 185 cases) in Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Of the Categories 3, 4 and 5 cases, 32.4% involve unvaccinated folk. – March 19, 2022.
