MALAYSIA yesterday reported 24,241 new coronavirus infections, compared to 27,004 the previous day, the Health Ministry said.
The CovidNow website showed that there were 59 virus-linked deaths yesterday, 13 of which were dead on arrival.
Active cases totalled 294,366 while the death toll stood at 34,244.
The ministry’s GitHub databases showed Selangor had the highest number of daily cases at 7,430, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,757) and Penang (2,306).
Other states that logged new cases were Johor (1,621), Kedah (1,529), Kelantan (625), Malacca (645), Negri Sembilan (1,502), Pahang (1,000), Perak (1,703), Perlis (128), Sabah (596), Sarawak (1,316), Terengganu (858), Labuan (83) and Putrajaya (142).
For the third day in a row, Perak recorded the highest number of deaths with 15.
Deaths were also reported in Selangor (12), Johor (11), Kelantan (6), Malacca (5), Pahang (3), Negri Sembilan, Penang, Sarawak (2 each) and Kelantan (1).
There were 7,600 Covid-19 hospitalisations. The hospital utilisation rate stood at 66.1%, of which 61.1% was virus-related.
A total of 383 cases were in intensive care, 222 of them on respiratory support. – March 19, 2022.
