AS soon as the news hit that Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been hospitalised, thousands of Malaysians flooded his Facebook page with well wishes.
The former prime minister, 92, was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) last night with a chest infection following a bout of the flu.
Many sent their love and extended their prayers for Dr Mahathir’s recovery and wished him good health.
“May Allah Subhanallahu Ta’ala bless you with a speedy recovery and allow you to fulfil your task of bringing back Justice to Malaysia. Allahumma shalli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘alihi Muhammad,” Zulkiflee Arip wrote.
Afreen Afreen posted: “Oh Allah, please grant Tun shifa and good health. Aameen ya robbal aalameen” while Alexander Tan Kok Bing wrote: “Dear God, Tun is our country’s hope!! Please bless Tun’s speedy recovery and good health!”
Facebook user Eric Quek said: “Get well soon Tun. We will always by your side and together we will be stronger. All our prayers for Tun and (your) speedy recovery.”
“Get lots of rest, Tun. You have done much and we see it. We will support you. May God bless Tun (to) recover soon,” Reese Ooi wrote.
Many on Facebook said Malaysia still needed Dr Mahathir, especially to save it.
“Get well soon Tun. Have a good rest and come back to steer back Malaysia. We, the Rakyat, need your leadership and your expertise in managing this country.”
“Get well Tun. The country needs you,” Chairul Anwar said, while Amer Amir wrote: “Allah selamatkan Tun demi negara (God save Tun for the nation’s sake.)”

Some also offered him a morale boost, telling him they supported the PH opposition coalition and the fight to change the federal government.
Mohd Adip wrote: “Get well soon….jgn risau (don’t worry)...pru nanti kita kasi bungkus (come the general election, we will kick out)...B END”
Huzri Suliman also told Dr Mahathir that the opposition would make it in the coming polls.
“Don’t worry Tun. We, the people of Malaysia, will make sure BN is defeated in the 14th general election. You need a rest, Tun. You have done a lot,” he said.
“Tun, we will win this time, be strong,” Sivanesvaran Ramaiah said.
Several Facebook users also told Dr Mahathir, the longest-serving prime minister of the country, to take it easy and pass the baton to younger leaders.
“I pray Tun will be in good health and (is) always in Allah’s protection. Amen, and take a good rest, and let your children and the people fight for our rights. We will definitely change,” Sham Sal wrote.
Chea Kim San also commented: “Tun, enough. Let the young Malaysians save the country.
“You need more rest, you have contributed a lot to Malaysia, I salute you forever!”
Shah Rizal also told Dr Mahathir to rest and let others pull their weight.
“To me, you have tried your best for the people. If PH loses, we won’t blame you. We blame Malaysians themselves who support corruption, robbers and thieves.”
Some Facebook users openly admitted they were not fans of Dr Mahathir, but still wished him well.
“Although our politics are not the same, I hope you recover quickly, Tun M…” Amirul Faez commented to a posting of a picture of Dr Mahathir’s in his ward.
Fahmi Al Fatih said although he disagreed with Dr Mahathir on many issues, today, he wanted the veteran leader to have a good rest and get well soon.
“Having different views cannot deny Dr Mahathir’s contribution to Malaysia for 22 years,” he said on Facebook. – February 10, 2018.
