CHINESE voters in Johor no longer trust DAP because the party has failed to lift the economy, welfare and the education of the community, Johor Umno deputy chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed said today.
He said DAP had promised various reforms during the last general election but failed to show any results, instead blaming its short 22-month tenure for its inability to make changes.
Nur Jazlan said Chinese voters in Johor were sick and tired of the same 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and Najib Razak rhetoric being peddled by the party.
“If the Malays lie to them they can accept, but if the same is done by the Chinese, they can’t accept it,” he said at a forum held online.
“DAP gave them hope in the last election, but they didn’t make any changes.”
He added, in 2018 when DAP was in government, instead of making it better for the Chinese community, they did the opposite.
“When Lim Guan Eng was the finance minister, he sent the Inland Revenue Board after the Chinese business community under the guise its coffers were running dry, so this courted their anger.
“Then when it came to education, he cut funding for Tunku Abdul Rahman University College. This too made the Chinese community angry.
“This is why we say the Chinese DAP are lying to the Chinese.”
Chinese voters in the state want Johor to return to pre-Pakatan Harapan times because the economy was performing better, Nur Jazlan said.
“The Chinese want the situation to return to pre-PH, to the time of Najib.
“Many of the Chinese were happy with Najib for 10 years, the only thing they were not happy with was 1MDB.
“That’s why DAP keeps harping on this, they have no other ammunition to use against Barisan Nasional, Umno and Najib,” Nur Jazlan said.
Using 1MDB as a means to garner votes has become a stale tactic, he said.
“DAP has lost its edge, they don’t know what to say and return to their old tactics. People are tired of listening about Najib and 1MDB in every campaign.
“Najib was only convicted for SRC International, not 1MDB. They should refer to SRC, but then again, that is not ‘sexy’.”
Having listened to the same old DAP rhetoric time and time again, Nur Jazlan said Chinese voters are finally awake and aware of what is happening.
“The people can see through DAP’s lies. Now they want to know what the government can do to help their livelihood and make more money when the borders with Singapore open.
“The Chinese community know that this time they cannot vote with their emotions, they have to think about their livelihood, the economy and their children’s education,” Nur Jazlan added. – March 7, 2022.
