PAKATAN Harapan (PH) will only announce its menteri besar candidate after winning the Johor elections, Anwar Ibrahim said today.

He also said PH was presently fine-tuning their manifesto for the state polls, which will take place on March 12.

“We have had preliminary meetings (on our MB candidate). We will be having a PH meeting soon. At present PKR secretary-general Saifuddin (Nasution Ismail) is confirmed to be Covid-positive. He just got infected.

“Let us win (the state elections) first,” the PH chairman told reporters in Segamat today.

He also said that he was going to discuss PH’s manifesto and its announcement in a meeting tonight.

The PKR president, who is also Port Dickson MP, was on a campaign trail to support PH candidates in Buloh Kasap, Pemanis and Gambir.

He said that the feedback from voters was encouraging, noting that it was now possible to hold a ceramah in a Felda settlement.

He was at Felda Palong Timur 2 in Buloh Kasap.

“At least we can now enter this area (Buloh Kasap). We can see how the voters welcome us. This is a convincing change,” he said.

PKR candidates will be contesting in these three seats – Subramani Chami in Buloh Kasap, Yoong Thau (Pemanis) and Gambir (Naim Jusri).

Anwar is expected to visit more Felda settlements tomorrow.

In this election, PKR will be using its own logo, while its allies DAP and Amanah would be using the PH banner.

PKR is contesting in 20 of the 56 seats.

Former education minister Maszlee Malik, who is contesting for PKR in Layang-Layang, is speculated to be PH’s MB candidate if the pact wins the elections.

Other names in the running include Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub, who is contesting in the Simpang Jeram seat.

PH’s main rival Barisan Nasional, meanwhile, has named Hasni Mohammad from Umno as its MB candidate in the state elections. – March 2, 2022.
