JELUTONG MP R.S.N. Rayer was suspended from the Dewan Rakyat sitting for a day for repeatedly interrupting former prime minister Najib Razak during the debate on the royal address.

In ejecting Rayer from the chamber, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Ramli Mohd Nor said that he had given ample warning to the DAP lawmaker.

“Jelutong you are wasting the Dewan’s time. I have already given you two warnings,” he told Rayer.

Rayer refused to back down and Ramli suspended him and ordered the lawyer out of the chamber.

Before exiting, Rayer asked Ramli why he was suspended and how long was the suspension.

Ramli said that the suspension is for one day and he was ejected for misleading the house.

During the debate Najib had claimed Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin knew about the depletion in the country’s reserves.

“He (Pagoh) was a senior minister in Pakatan Harapan. Then he became prime minister in the Perikatan Nasional government.

“The reserves now are less than they were before the 14th general election.

“He (Pagoh) was in two governments that depleted the country’s reserves,” Najib said as he touched on the national debt during his debate.

Rayer then interjected and told Ramli that Najib cannot mislead the house with his statements about the country’s debts.

“You (Najib) stole billions of ringgit, you have no shame. Have some shame. You stole the people’s money.”

Najib then said he had the right to continue with his debate.

He said the opposition shouldn’t give the excuse that the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) had destroyed the country’s finances.

“It is not right to suggest that the rakyat will have to pay for 1MDB’s debt.

“The rakyat won’t have to pay. The government can use the RM16.4 billion from Goldman Sachs to pay the debts.

“Other funds were also received and all this accumulated to RM23 billion. This is not the rakyat’s money that can be used to pay the debts.” – March 2, 2022.
