78 Covid-19 deaths, 25,854 new cases

MALAYSIA’S daily Covid-19 deaths continue to increase with 78 yesterday, said the Health Ministry, the highest daily tally since the start of the year.

The previous highest fatality figure in a day for the year was 75, recorded on the day before yesterday.

Of the 78 fresh fatalities, 34 are dead on arrival. The total number of reported deaths due to the coronavirus now stands at 32,827.

Malaysia recorded its highest daily deaths since the start of the pandemic on September 12, with 592.

The county recorded 25,854 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, a climb from the 23,100 cases the day before.

The GitHub database shows that of the 78 deaths, polls-bound Johor claimed the highest with 21, followed by Kedah (15) and Selangor (13).

Perak recorded nine, Sabah (6), Penang (5), Kelantan (2), Terengganu (2), Malacca (2), Pahang (1), Negri Sembilan (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).

Perlis, Putrajaya, Labuan and Sarawak had no deaths.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of daily Covid-19 cases, with 5,969 yesterday.

This is followed by Kedah (2,801), Penang (2,377), Sabah (2,158), Negri Sembilan (1,808), Johor (1,767), Kuala Lumpur (1,751), Kelantan (1,518), Perak (1,288), Pahang (1,269), Sarawak (1,248), Terengganu (727), Malacca (507), Perlis (300), Labuan (230) and Putrajaya (136).

A total of 7,542 Covid-19 patients were hospitalised, of which 374 are in intensive care units and 213 in need of respiratory aid.
