TENAGA Nasional Berhad (TNB) has denied a viral video claiming that the water at the Tasik Kenyir dam had reached dangerous levels, adding that the water will not be released anytime soon.

According to an official statement from TNB, the water at the Kenyir power station hydroelectric dam is at a controlled level and still below overflow as of today.

“Continuous monitoring of the water level is ongoing, and any related information will be passed to the authorities regularly,” it posted on Facebook.

The power company urged consumers to check its social media accounts for the latest developments in the state.

A clip circulated earlier showed heavy river currents flowing fast over the dam amid the sounds of loud sirens.

The video has caused anxiety among locals as there are many who are stranded and waiting to be rescued due to worsening floods in the region.

Many had posted on social media that they had to seek refuge on rooftops as the floods inundated their homes.

Meanwhile, former Tasik Kenyir tourism association president Zalani Endut says the situation at the lake is still under control.

Zalani says that heavy water currents passing over the Kenyir dam is not uncommon and is expected during the rainy season, which usually brings about flooding.

“Over here we did not hear any sirens at all, and the water current is usually like that during the flood season.

“However, it is unusual for the flood to occur at the end of February. Usually, around this time, the rain is supposed to have subsided,” he said. – February 27, 2022.
