37 new Covid deaths

Malaysia logs its highest number of daily Covid cases since the start of the pandemic, with 28,825, attributed to the more infectious Onicron variant. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, February 21, 2022.

THIRTY-SEVEN Covid-19 deaths were reported on Sunday, the highest daily count for 2022 thus far, according to the health ministry’s raw data on GitHub.

Ten of these were dead on arrival cases.

The fatalities take the death toll to 32,347.

There was a slight drop in the number of new cases with 26,832 cases reported, compared to previous days.

In his daily statement, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the new cases, 1,438 were admitted to hospital.

“485 of the cases admitted to the hospital were in categories 3, 4 and 5, whereas 953 infections were category 1 and 2,” he said.

On Saturday, Malaysia logged its highest number of daily Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began, with 28,825, attributed to the more infectious Onicron variant.

Some 3.2 million people have been infected with Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic.

Noor Hisham said there were 15 new clusters, bringing the active total to 500 nationwide.

The health ministry’s GitHub database showed that Selangor logged the highest number of cases with 7,180 infections, followed by Sabah (5,007) and Johor (2,644).

Kedah reported 2,254 infections, followed by Penang (1,811), Kelantan (1,605), Negri Sembilan (609), Pahang (1,581), Kuala Lumpur (1,428), Malacca (713), Terengganu (608), Perak (358), Sarawak (309), Labuan (358), Perlis (113), and Putrajaya (173). – February 21, 2022.
