Record 27,831 Covid cases logged today

MALAYSIA has logged its highest number of Covid-19 cases in a day since the pandemic began with 27,831 Covid-19 cases today, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

This a huge increase from yesterday’s 22,133 infections.

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cumulative total now stands at 3,111,514.

He also said the majority of the cases are in non-severe categories, with 7,606 cases in Category 1 and 20,128 in Category 2.

Meanwhile, 97 are in the more severe Categories 3 (59 cases), 4 (28) and 5 (10).

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has to brace for this Omicron storm together by complying with all standard operating procedures.

“Many countries in our region are seeing an upward trend. Please get vaccinated and get your booster dose to protect yourself and your loved ones,” he wrote in a tweet.

The breakdown of cases by state will be uploaded on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal after midnight.

According to the CovidNow website, more than 13.4 million people, or 57.3% of the adult population in the country, have received their booster dose as of yesterday.

Over 22.9 million people, or 97.5% of adults, have completed their vaccination, while more than 23.2 million people (98.7%) have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

As for adolescents aged 12 to 17, more than 2.7 million individuals, or 89.9%, have completed their vaccination, while over 2.8 million individuals (92.5%) have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

Yesterday, 154,776 vaccine doses were dispensed.

This brings the cumulative total of vaccine doses administered under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme to more than 65.3 million. – February 16, 2022.
