FORTY-TWO deaths have been recorded among Covid-19 booster shot recipients, National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) director Dr Roshayati Mohamad Sani said.

“Fourteen of those cases were given heterologous (mixed vaccines) jabs,” she said in a statement today.

She said Pfizer, Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines have a mortality rate of 3.4, 4.2 and 1.4 among recipients per million doses respectively.

Roshayati said NPRA has also received 80 reports of serious adverse events following immunisation (Aefi) after receiving the booster shot.

“That makes it six reports per million shots,” she said.

“The 80 cases were part of a total of 1,104 booster dose recipients, which is 85 reports per million doses.

“From the monitoring of Aefi reports received by NPRA so far, the trend and rate of Aefi reporting involving booster doses did not show any improvement from what was seen during primary dose administration.”

As of February 11, a total of 79,393 doses of vaccine have been given to children aged five to 12 years.

“To date, only eight reports of non-serious adverse effects have been received, equivalent to a rate of 0.1 reports per 1,000 doses,” said Roshayati.

“Skin reactions, vomiting and abdominal pain are among the adverse effects that have been reported.” – February 16, 2022.
