PKR has questioned the Election Commission’s (EC) failure to provide opposition parties with the additional electoral list for December 2021 and wanted to know if it is because of irregularities.
PKR central elections director Fuziah Salleh said it has been a month since the list was gazetted but the EC is still not ready to made it available to those who want to buy it.
“What is the real reason for the failure? Is it because there are errors in the data or is it because the EC does not want to supply the list to the opposition?” she asked in a statement today.
“What are the reasons Pakatan Harapan (PH) can’t buy the electoral list?”
The 15th Johor state elections are on March 12 with nominations fixed for February 26 and early voting, March 8.
The list has 5.8 million voters, who were added to the master electoral roll and released on January 21, following the implementation of automatic voter registration and Undi18.
The electoral roll contains 2,597,742 voters – 2,574,835 regular voters, 10,955 members of the military and their spouses, 11,576 members of the police force and their spouses and 376 voters who are overseas.
Fuziah said she has received complaints from PH data units regarding discrepancies such as voters marked as “deceased” and “expired”.
“So I personally checked the voters (registration) on EC’s website using a sample of identity card numbers from the electoral list. It turns out that the complaint is true,” she said.
In light of this, Fuziah wants the EC to make a public statement on the integrity of the data that has been gazetted.
“Will the Johor state elections be compromised because there are ‘irregularities’ in the electoral roll that has been gazetted?” she asked.
Fuziah said prior to this, the EC had prepared the additional voters registration draft every quarterly, which was displayed to the public.
She also said it was provided free to political parties and individuals so that they can protest any irregularity before the EC gazetted the list.
“But the practice is no longer continued and the additional voter registration list has to be bought by political parties at a high price,” she said.
“Political parties are no longer allowed to check the validity of additional registers in the form of the draft on display.
“It turns out that when it is not on display this time, there are strange names in the additional voter register for December 2021.” – February 16, 2022.
