MALAYSIA recorded 31 Covid-19 deaths, including 10 dead-on-arrival cases, yesterday, according to the Health Ministry’s GitHub database.
This is an increase of seven compared with the previous day’s death toll of 24.
This brings the total fatality toll from the epidemic to 32,180.
Sabah reported the highest number of deaths, at eight, followed by Selangor (seven), Johor (six), Penang (five), Kedah (two) and Negri Sembilan, Perak and Terengganu (one each).
Meanwhile, there has also been a sharp increase in the active caseload to 182,965 as of midnight, from 168,447 the previous day.
A total of 2,034 patients were admitted to hospitals yesterday, bringing the Covid-19 bed occupancy rate to 64.2%.
Ventilator utilisation by Covid-19 patients was at 35.2% while intensive care unit occupancy was at 56.6%, of which 23.4% of the beds were taken up by coronavirus cases.
Johor recorded the highest number of hospital admissions, at 414, followed by Selangor (396) and Sabah (308).
Hospital bed utilisation in Johor, including non-Covid-19 cases, was 83.9%.
Meanwhile, 5,185 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the Klang Valley – Selangor (3,862), Kuala Lumpur (1,215) and Putrajaya (108).
Sabah reported 4,374 cases, followed by Johor, which is scheduled to go to the polls on March 12, with 2,780 infections.
Other states and territories reporting new cases are Kedah (2,649), Penang (1,681), Kelantan (1,598), Pahang (836), Negri Sembilan (684), Perak (558), Malacca (546), Terengganu (453), Labuan (311), Sarawak (284) and Perlis (194). – February 16, 2022.
