MALAYSIA and the Philippines have agreed to mutually recognise their respective Covid-19 vaccination certificates.
“Travellers from Malaysia are now allowed to enter the Philippines with proof of complete vaccination on MySejahtera.
“Meanwhile, travellers from the Philippines are allowed to enter Malaysia with proof of complete vaccination certificate in VaxcertPH,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement today, adding that the two countries had reached agreement on Monday.
The ministry said admission of travellers is also subject to current quarantine procedures set by the authorities in both countries.
The statement said the two governments were working on a safer and more secure system for entry, following reports that seven Malaysians were stranded at the airport in Manila after their vaccination certificates were not recognised by Philippine authorities.
They were refused entry into the republic and told that the Malaysian digital vaccine certificate in the MySejahtera app was not an acceptable proof of vaccination.
They told the Malaysian media that their passports were confiscated and were told they would be deported the following day.
“Wisma Putra is pleased to inform that seven fellow Malaysians who were stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport have been allowed to enter the Philippines,” the Foreign Ministry tweeted. – February 15, 2022.
