Covid-19 active caseload rises to 155,673

MALAYSIA’S active Covid-19 caseload has risen to 155,673, while hospital admissions for the coronavirus also grew from 55.1% the day before to 58.2% yesterday, the Health Ministry reported.

Yesterday, there were 21,072 infections against 5,724 recoveries, while 11 new deaths were also reported.

Of the new cases, 20,986 or 99.59% were in the less severe categories of 1 and 2.

For active cases, 143,076 were in home quarantine, 6,118 in quarantine centres and 6,292 in hospital.

Meanwhile, there were 1,635 hospitalisations yesterday, raising the Covid-19 occupancy rate to 58.2%. Overall utilisation rate was at 65.2%.

Ventilator utilisation by Covid-19 patients was at 36.5%, while intensive care unit occupancy was at 55.1% overall, of which 22.2% were taken up by coronavirus cases.

There were 351 new admissions in Johor, followed by 332 in Selangor and 264 in Sabah.

Hospital bed utilisation in Johor, including non-Covid cases, was 80%, the highest among the states and territories.

The hospital admission rate indicates the severity of the virus’s spread. Hospital utilisation includes bed occupancy as well as the number of patients in ICU and on ventilators.

Meanwhile, 6,456 cases were reported in the Klang Valley region, comprising Selangor (5,350), Kuala Lumpur (1,001) and Putrajaya (105).

Sabah reported the second most number of new infection yesterday with 3,891 cases, followed by Johor, which is scheduled to go to the polls on March 12, with 2,419 cases.

Other states and territories reporting new cases are Kedah (1,841), Penang (1,566), Kelantan (1,208), Pahang (1,099), Negri Sembilan (983), Malacca (429), Perak (444), Terengganu (297), Sarawak (201), Perlis (129) and Labuan (109).

Of the 11 fatalities reported, five were classified dead on arrival (DOA), bringing the death toll to 32,125.

Sabah reported five fatalities, followed by Johor (four) and Kelantan and Pahang (one each).

The virus mortality rate was at 0.1%, while the two-week average for virus deaths stood at 41 per 10 million people. – February 14, 2022.
