THE majority of Covid-19 clusters linked to the education sector broke out in residential schools, Education Minister Radzi Jidin said today.
In a Facebook video post, Radzi explained in total there were 100 clusters with 76 clusters coming from semi-residential schools while eight clusters originated from full residential schools.
“From the data we received from KKM (Education Ministry), it clearly shows that there were 100 clusters linked to the education sector. Ninety-six clusters are in institutions under the Education Ministry and four clusters in private education institutions.
“Of the 96 clusters, 84 clusters were linked to residential schools with 76 clusters in semi-residential schools and eight full-residential schools.”

“As for non-exam students who had already gone back home for the Chinese New Year holidays, they were told to stay home and attend online classes.”
“This is to prevent possible infection of Form fFve students who will be taking their SPM exams end of February to March,” said Radzi.
On Covid-19 cases in theeducation sector from January 1 to February 1, Radzi said there were 8,451 positive cases.
“Overall, there were 118,238 cases nationwide from January to February. Of the figure, 8,451 cases, or 7.15%, are linked to the education sector.” – February 5, 2022.
