LALITHA Kunaratnam, the writer who reported Azam Baki’s stock trading scandal, has been summoned by Bukit Aman for questioning.

FMT today reported that Lalitha had received a call from the police this morning telling her to present herself at federal police headquarters at 2.30pm on February 4.

Lalitha has written two articles revealing that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief had owned millions of shares in two companies in 2015 and 2016.

Her report “Business ties among MACC leadership: How deep does it go?” was published last year.

Azam has since denied any wrongdoing and sued Lalitha for RM10 million in damages for defamation.

The matter of Azam’s shareholdings was raised in parliament on December 14 by Sungai Buloh MP R. Sivarasa, who asked whether Azam had declared his ownership of more than three million shares in Excel Force MSC Bhd and nearly two million shares in Gets Global Bhd in 2015 and 2016.

On December 27, a member of an MACC oversight board, Dr Edmund Terence Gomez, resigned his seat to protest the lack of action on a series of emails he had written to the chairmen of two internal panels regarding Azam’s shareholdings.

In response, Azam said he had informed his superiors of the share purchases in 2015, and that they had raised no concerns. – January 31, 2022.
